Commonwealth Authorised Celebrants at the MELBOURNE MARRIAGE REGISTRY – VICTORIA
Planning a same-sex or LGBTQIA+ wedding in Melbourne from overseas? You’re in the right place.
The Victorian Private Marriage Registry, Pride Registry Weddings and the Victorian Marriage Hub have helped LGBTQIA+ couples from around the world arrange simple, elegant and affordable registry-style weddings in Victoria for more than 16 years. Whether you are travelling to Australia specifically to marry, combining your wedding with a holiday, or requiring a Letter of Support for a Prospective Marriage Visa application, our experienced team can guide you through the process.
Many of our international couples lodge their Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) from overseas before travelling to Australia for their ceremony.
To get married legally in Australia, you will need to provide proof of your identity and date of birth. This is usually your passport or birth certificate. If either of you has been married before, you will also need to provide evidence of how your most recent marriage ended, such as a divorce order or death certificate.
Original documents must be sighted by your celebrant before your marriage can legally proceed. If any documents are not written in English, an accredited English translation will also be required. Visit www.naati.com.au for translations services.
The Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) can be completed and lodged from overseas. The form can be downloaded directly from our website and signed before an authorised witness in your country of residence.
Once completed, you can return the NOIM to us by email or post. The original document should then be brought with you to Australia for your celebrant to sight before the ceremony.
Your NOIM must be lodged at least one month before your wedding date and remains valid for up to 18 months.
On the day of your ceremony you will receive a presentation marriage certificate.
If you require an official government-issued Marriage Certificate, this can be ordered directly from Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria (BDM Victoria) after your marriage has been registered. This certificate is the document most commonly required for legal and administrative purposes.
If you are planning a wedding from overseas and would like assistance with the process, our friendly team is here to help.

The lovely staff were a breath of fresh air. And a special shoutout to Chess, who made our day one to truly remember!!! 5 stars is not enough for this beautiful venue! ❤️Posted on Ajla Lovrecic14/11/2022 Such a great experience. We assumed that we would be walking into a room with a desk and signing some papers. It was absolutely beyond our expectations. The ceremony and set up was so beautiful. We wanted something budget friendly & intimate only with our immediate family. We got that and soo much more. Chess was wonderful on the day. She guided us through every step. I was so nervous but the atmosphere when we walked in immediately made us both calm and ready to take the next step in our lives. We couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful day and just want to express our deepest gratitude. Will highly be recommending this to all our family and friends!Posted on Kerrie “Kez”28/08/2022 These wonderful people helped us organise our Melb wedding, from our interstate home. And when, at the last moment, we asked if they could come to us on location in Melb, they readily and happily accommodated us. Chess, our Celebrant, was the perfect person for a perfect day. She seemed to have an innate ability to tap into our essence and wove the ceremony accordingly. She exudes love, warmth and sincerity and brings ease and her own beautiful nature to a very special day. Everyone at the wedding was in agreeance and all fell in love with her. She was perfect. Thank you so much Chess. xxPosted on Scotty26/08/2022 Great service ,Chess was fantastic ,she really made our special day perfect. I definitely highly recommend.
