Planning a same-sex or LGBTQIA+ wedding in Melbourne from overseas? You’re in the right place.

The Victorian Private Marriage Registry, Pride Registry Weddings and the Victorian Marriage Hub have helped LGBTQIA+ couples from around the world arrange simple, elegant and affordable registry-style weddings in Victoria for more than 16 years. Whether you are travelling to Australia specifically to marry, combining your wedding with a holiday, or requiring a Letter of Support for a Prospective Marriage Visa application, our experienced team can guide you through the process.

Many of our international couples lodge their Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) from overseas before travelling to Australia for their ceremony.

What Documents Will We Need?

To get married legally in Australia, you will need to provide proof of your identity and date of birth. This is usually your passport or birth certificate. If either of you has been married before, you will also need to provide evidence of how your most recent marriage ended, such as a divorce order or death certificate.

Original documents must be sighted by your celebrant before your marriage can legally proceed. If any documents are not written in English, an accredited English translation will also be required. Visit www.naati.com.au for translations services.

Lodging Your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)

The Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) can be completed and lodged from overseas. The form can be downloaded directly from our website and signed before an authorised witness in your country of residence.

Once completed, you can return the NOIM to us by email or post. The original document should then be brought with you to Australia for your celebrant to sight before the ceremony.

Your NOIM must be lodged at least one month before your wedding date and remains valid for up to 18 months.

After Your Wedding

On the day of your ceremony you will receive a presentation marriage certificate.

If you require an official government-issued Marriage Certificate, this can be ordered directly from Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria (BDM Victoria) after your marriage has been registered. This certificate is the document most commonly required for legal and administrative purposes.
